Description

Hall Radiance Mixing Bowl Round 7 3/8" Orange Poppy Platinum Trim 1933-1953Ve Hall Radiance Mixing Bowl Round 7 3/8" Orange Poppy Platinum Trim 1933-1953Ve Exquisite Decorative HALL CHINA 7 3/8" RADIANCE MIXING Serving BOWL , ORANGE POPPY with PLATINUM Trim, circa 1933-1953 from East Liverpool, Ohio, USA HALL COLLECTOR FRIENDS: We have collected Hall Orange Poppy kitchenware for 30 years. Last year much to our delight, we had the opportunity to purchase a large collection which included one item we wanted: an elusive small Bellevue coffee pot which we did not have in our collection. We drove 1100 miles and spent 2 nights in a hotel to get that beauty since the seller specified local pick-up only. The Bellevue is in excellent condition and is displayed beside our Bellevue teapot. Most of the rest of the set which includes kitchenware and some dinnerware are also in excellent condition. We are now ready to sell the rest since we don't need duplicates or collect dinnerware! DESCRIPTION: This features the shiny, bright orange poppy flower design with the platinum trim on the ivory background color. The rim is trimmed in the bold platinum striping that shows minor age appropriate wear. The inside is a bright, clean ivory porcelain. Notice that the decal is the larger version of a poppy flower instead of the smaller version of the same flower. There are 4 sizes of the Hall Orange Poppy mixing bowls. This one is the next to the smallest. CONDITION: The condition of this mixing bowl is superb. There is 1 small spot on the inside that is an impurity under the glaze. This is a common manufacturing issue in pottery of this era. See photo #9. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, scratches or hairlines. There is minor age appropriate wear to the platinum and no color wear, no browning or crazing. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. (We are very picky Hall collectors!) DIMENSIONS: The bowl has a diameter of 7 3/8" and a height of 4 3/4". HISTORY/MARKS: When the East Liverpool Potteries Company was dissolved in 1903, Robert Hall, one of the principals, formed Hall China Company. After his untimely death in 1904, his young son, Robert Taggert Hall took over and made it his mission to rediscover the long lost process from the Ming Dynasty of producing a non-lead based glazed china using a single fire process. He succeeded by 1911 creating the craze-proof finish for which Hall China became famous for over 100 years. Hall China remained in the extended Hall family until they merged with Homer Laughlin China Company across the river in Newell, West Virginia, the manufacturer of Fiesta. Hall China is not in production today as their operating kilns have been moved to Newell and most of the original facility on Anna Avenue is being demolished. The mark on the bottom of these is the mark that Margaret & Kenn Whitmyer designate as mark #6 in their book, Collector's Encyclopedia of Hall China, 3rd edition. This mark was used from the 1932-1970. The Orange Poppy design was produced 1933-1953. It served as a premium for The Great American Tea Company (A&P) from 1933-1940 and then was carried as open stock at Hall China until it was discontinued in 1953.
